Textile art: How To Pine Burr Fabric Folding

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Today I want to share with you one of the most colorful projects that I’ve tried before: it is the “Pine Burr” what in Portuguese we call it as “Biquinho” (= small beak). The Pine Burr technique is all about fabric folding and then sewing them together matching colors to create a beautiful design. It was very popular with African American quilters in the twentieth century.

With the Pine Burr technique you can do more than quilts! You can make pillow covers, placemats and wall hanging! They are specially made and I’m sure you will love to make them!!!

To make one of this you will need lots of 2.5″ x 2.5″ square pieces of fabric and fold them in a way that they will end in a triangular shape. It seems complicated but I guarantee that it’s not!

Here you’ll see how I made this beautiful piece and if you want to know how to make one, I made a video so you’ll be able to see all the details of the process!!!

If this is your first time here, I invite to you to visit my You Tube Channel where I have lots of others crafts projects, ideas and tips!

As I said in another post, I lost almost all my content here in the blog because I had a technical problem, but now, little by little I am reposting some of that content and adding more new ideas for you!

I hope you enjoy it and thank you for your visit!!!!
